In the 30 years following the end of World War II, a new style of architecture captured the imagination of Americans ready for a future that looked forward
to better times. Then usually called “Contemporary,” the style today is known as Mid-Century Modern.
This exhibit presents some of the notable Mid-Century Modern buildings that give a distinctive character to Mansfield’s built environment, with special attention given to Techbuilt houses, one of the period’s most successful partly prefabricated designs, and to the houses designed by Robert Carroll May, a gifted architect who for three years had worked for Frank Lloyd Wright.
