George W. Collins was a resident of Mansfield on December 21, 1864 when he enlisted as a Private in Co. M of the 1^st Regiment Connecticut Volunteer Heavy Artillery; he deserted on January 24, 1865.

He was not living in Mansfield in the 1860 U.S. census; no further information is known.
