January 6, 2025. We have reached a significant milestone in the continued mission of preserving Mansfield’s history for the future.

Town officials, Town Council members, Historical Society officials, and State Representative Gregg Haddad gathered to break ground on the long-awaited renovations to both historic town hall buildings home to the Mansfield Historical Society. Mayor Antonia Moran, Council Members Chris Kueffner, Bill Tomecko, Ronald Schurin, and Town Manager Ryan Aylesworth represented town officials. Museum Director Ann Galonska, Program Director Bruce Clouette, and President David Landry represented the Mansfield Historical Society.

And we’re off! Thanks to all that attended.

Both buildings have been home to the Mansfield Historical Society since 1980. In 2017, a grant allowed us to conduct an assessment of both buildings, which resulted in an actionable list of priority repairs needed to ensure the continued use of both buildings. The scope of what was required was daunting. Still, with cooperation between town officials, the Historical Society executive council, and State Representative Gregg Haddad, the much-needed funding came together in 2022. The initial scope of work is bulk water control, new ADA-compliant entrances for both buildings, general repairs, and improvements to ensure a secure and sound space for our collection and exhibits. It has been a genuine team effort between all stakeholders, and we are excited to enhance further our mission of preserving and displaying Mansfield’s history.

Sarazin of Windham, CT, is the project’s general contractor. Earth Dynamics of Coventry, CT, has begun site work to tie bulk water into existing DOT storm drains.
