The Edith Mason Library is a non-circulating research collection of books and manuscripts relating to the history and genealogy of the Town of Mansfield. It is open to the public during the Museum's regular hours (Thursdays and Sundays, 1:30 - 4:30 p.m., June through September), or by appointment at other times. Please contact the museum to make arrangements. The library is named for Edith Mason, one of the charter members of the Historical Society. Following Miss Mason's death in 1961, a memorial library fund was established in her name. Books and manuscripts given in her memory and purchases made through the memorial fund formed the basis of the Library's early collection. Today the Edith Mason Library has grown to include over 500 catalogued books and some 3,000 manuscripts dating from the 18th century to the present. The manuscript collection consists of letters, account books, diaries, scrapbooks and related documents, along with maps, posters, and original artwork by Mansfield artists. Notable adjuncts are the extensive Photograph Collection and the Old Houses Documentation Files. Materials may be photocopied or scanned, subject to the Mansfield Historical Society's Reproduction & Use Policy, which includes a Price Schedule for assorted services. |
